I've used several different types of meat thermometers since I began learning how to smoke meats on my Weber Smokey Mount Smoker. And while this smoker does have it's own temperature gauge, it is too variable for proper and effective smoking.

The key is having a thermometer that is inside the smoker that tracts the temperature of the smoker and another one that is inside the actual meat being smoked. Internal meat temperature is critical to "getting it right".

This Maverick Wireless set works flawlessly and when I used a third thermometer to verify how correct its reading are they were spot on. Highly recommended!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. I had read a lot of reviews on other wireless thermometers and most of the complaints had to do with the range of the unit or accuracy or syncing. This one seems to excel at all.

Range: My smoker is on the patio a floor below and about 20 ft away from my kitchen. The device has no problem with communications at all between the transmitter and the receiver even through the wall.

Accuracy: Did a boiling water test on both probes and it was within 1-2 degrees. It was also right in line with the thermometer on my Weber GSM.

Syncing: I had no problem getting the base and receiver to communicate on power up. Very straight forward; turn one on, then the other, and they start communicating.

The only reason I did not give it 5 stars: The cables for the smoker probes are short...very short, approx. 3 ft which is probably fine for most smokers but definitely isn't long enough to satisfy me for my setup. The Weber GSM 22.5 inch I just got is significantly taller and wider than other smokers I have owned. When I have the probe in the top vent, and the transmitter on a utility table right next to it (about 2-1/2 to 3 feet off the ground) , I have almost 0 slack in the cable. All it would take is to add 2 feet to it, or even a better way to mount it to the handle of the smoker so the reach wouldn't have to be so long to make this a 5+ star product. By joe By Pete Richardson Saved my smoked pork project by alerting me to a low temperature. This is a must have for someone new to smoking.
